Low idle

My 124 '88 has developed a low idle in gear, and not as it should be in "N". Could it be the fuel injectors(becuase they need replacing) or something else? When you shift to "2" the revs drop even lower and it then pulls off in 1st gear. Is 1st gear only ment to engage when you use the kick down?

Yes, first gear engages during kickdown and when manually engaged with the selector lever. What is the idle rpm in gear? Should be around 600rpm.

Yes the revs are around 600 but the car vibrates a lot when in gear and idling, sometimes the revs will drop to 500 and thats low i'm sure!
