The reason I can tell it has already been into is because the sealant on the front cover is some kind of clear silicone stuff - it is not the original sealant.

Once again, the original poster KOTARBI asked about the 97 W210 not the W124 model. I know that it may have and I do stress may here (depending on the year of the W124 model that your quoting on) some common engine part/block but can you generalize the fault of the W124 on the W210?

I don't think anyone has specified "common problems" of the W210 96-97 years.

That is a good point MercedesShop. Can't say anything one way or the other about the chassis - just the duel overhead cam 104 engine.

I simply looked back in the archives for electrical problems on E-320's.
There is more than enough evidence that these vehicles have issues with wiring harnesses and other electrical problems that leave their owners stranded.

If you wish to pick specifically on one model year and one engine, then you are welcome to do so. The original post was comparing these vehicles to a 1984 300SD. I stand by my original statement that their reliability is clearly inadequate as compared to the SD.

Your vehicle may differ and you may have full confidence in it. I don't.

So be it.

Does the 1996 E320 have the same engine & transmission as the 1994/95? My understanding is that it is essentially the same car, different body.
