She won't turn over!
Hello all-
I am a new forum member because unlike my Ford Truck, I haven't had too many problems with my '01 E320 that I needed assitance with :-) Anyways, I jumped in the car on Sat. to pick up my wife and daughter from the Airport and the car wouldn't turn over. No messages on the computer as to what could be amiss. There is plenty of gas in the tank. It just sounds like its not getting a spark to fire up. AAA is coming over with a flatbed now to take her to the local service station. Anyone have any ideas of what could be the problem? My concern is since I am not going to take it to one of the Mercedes "Stealerships" I want to make sure the local garage doesn't try and bamboozle me. Thanks for any input. Best, SMB |
Do you mean it won't "turn over" i.e. crank? Or do you mean it won't start?
Not turning over is usualy a bad connection in the starter circuit or a bad battery terminal. Not starting could be a variety of things. |
Won't turn over, meaning it will not start. After you turn the key it trys to start for about 10 seconds and then gives up. You then have to remove the key to try and start it again. I did that about 10-15 times before I knew I was going to have to get it towed to the shop.
I am mainly curious what would be causing it not to start but wouldn't register as a "malfunction" on the computer. Thanks in advance for any input. Best, SMB |
The shop just called back. They said it needed a new Crankshaft Sensor which was going to run ~$300 for parts and labor. Does that sound about right?
Thanks, SMB |
Crankshaft sensor...sounds right.
$300? Sounds about in the ballpark...for a "stealership" ... |
