My light bulb for the clock is out in my R129 and the dealer said in order to change the bulb, the entire dash will have to come off. Is that really necessary. The cost for that is approximately $100. I am wondering if I can change the bulb myself and save some money? I don't want to take the dash apart and find out I cannot put it back together. If this can be done over the weekend, is there something I should be awared of before getting started? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What he should have said is the instrument cluster housing must be removed. Requires special pullers & just the right touch or the plastic housing WILL BREAK!!

I have heard stories of a few customers attempting this on later cars. Most of the time, the $100 saved turns into a $250 housing and the labor to transfer over the parts.
