Strange Light Problem '92 MB 500 SL
I have a '92 MB 500 SL with a strange problem. The left front park light and left rear tail light inadvertently come on together for no reason. (I do not have the headlight switch set to that position!)
It does not matter what position the ignition switch is turned. It will do it sitting in a parking lot, locked up, or driving down the road. If the car is parked usually once these lights come on they stay on until the battery goes dead, however, while driving they may come on for a while, then go off, repeatedly. When these lights come on the left turn signal indicator is illuminated, and the left turn signals do not flash. Flipping the headlight switch around to different positions has no effect to make them turn off or on. Sometimes they may not come on for a week. I've checked the bulb for a crossed filament and found none. A Benz mechanic told me it was probably the hazard relay so I replaced it, but it did not fix the problem, however, if you unplug this relay while these lights are on, removing fuse #9 makes them go off but the hazard relay starts clicking like crazy. If these lights are not on, removing fuse #9 has no effect on the hazard relay! Can anyone out there help? Email swv72@yahoo.com |

With the problem occuring, try disconnecting the headlamp switch and see if that makes them turn off. Then post what the results are here.
