89 260E Air Cond advice

My car seems to have a problem - is it really a problem with the AC or how I use it?

On a hot day, the ac blew high with no cool air. I actually pulled into a gas station, and when I turned the car off and came backa few mis later, the 'problem' was cured.

I also note that when the middle vents are blowing upward (towards the sensor grille on the hood near the light switches) the temp gets more moderate. If blowing downward, the air coming out seems very cold (good, but can be annoying if it's blowing on your sleeve).

Am I operating this correctly? How does it work best for you folks? Is there a 'trick' to running it everyday?

thanx in advance...

Check the tension on your serpentine belt.

There's a switch on the back of some compressors that will shut off the system if it senses too loose a belt. Stopping & restarting the car resets the switch and the a/c will reengage until the sensor once again detects the loose belt.

Lots of info on this issue in the archives.
