Possible to repair wiring to throttle actuator?
Just purchased my 95 E320 sedan. It has a few problems like, erratic idle, surging/ hesitant acceleration. Tune up has been preformed recently and I have a code 2, 3, 17 pulled from the LED flash. I plan do do the wiring harness next since mine seems to be cooked to a golden brown. However, I am concerned with the wiring at the throttle actuator after seeing a how-to at http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness. I guess my question would specifically be: Is it possible to repair the wiring on the actuator or am I sentenced to buying a new actuator to the tune of about $2K ? (that is just the part price) Seems like alot for a wiring repair. Of course the actuator could be damaged as well. The only other symptoms I have is, a clicking that coincides with the erratic idle and a cliking (probably from a relay) from the dash in the passenger side which also coincides with the erratic idle? Any insight would be helpful Thanks

eta wiring repair
yes it is possible to repair the wiring to the electronic throttle actuator. Do it wire by wire to avoid any possible misconnection.

My 2 cents, don't waste your time trying to do what I tried, bought an old eta and between my old one and one from a 1994 320e i tried to rewire it.
Did the complete process twice and both times the car stumble once you pressed the gas. I wired and rechecked my wires 20 times and both times it failed. Wasted a lot of hours but it was interesting for me. spend 1500 and buy one. ;) very easy to install if you have the right tools, also the connector is ruine after you remove the wires. |
Well I guess buying a new actuator seems like the better solution then. But I am curious where you found one for $1500 the best deal I could find is $1800. Thanks for the help.

It's not just the wiring harness that causes throttle actuators to fail.
They also have potentiometers that wear out over time. I would get pricing from Phil here at Fastlane. I'd also try Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills. He sells at wholesale pricing and ships all over the U.S. |
DCX offers parts pricing online in Germany: http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/Projects/wi/cda/etpl?ETNR=A0001416525&from=query&etpl_lang=
My TA (Schieber) A0001416525 for M104 is priced at EUR 650 =$ 800. Some dealer would handdeliver it for that margin :) Good luck Reinhard |
