Guys, I have a 1980 450SE euro with the chrysler (I think) climate control. Can I by pass the system for the winter so I can have heat. I'm sure its the reason I have no heat in this car.

Thanks,

Cardude

Any simple by-pass will leave you without control. That system can really make some heat if you put it full flow. Being in Atlanta I don't think you will like it.

I remember years ago seeing in A/C catalogs manual heater valves which looked just like the bottom of the MB/Chrysler servo. These I presumed were for Chryslers that didn't have Climate control. Seems like a lot of trouble though. How much real diagnostics have you done on the system. Does the system switch duct positions?

One things for sure I get no heat or AC at all currently. I pretty sure its the Unit because everyhting else seems to be in great shape. (hoses, radiator, temp level etc). I'm currently working in the Mid west for the winter. Its freaking cold.

I bought a new servo for my 1980 450SLC from Randy Steele at epsparts.com. This is an improved version over the factory original. Frequently the factory servo is cracked. The new unit uses an aluminum base rather than plastic. I've forgotten the cost, but I think it was around $180.

However, even after replacing my servo, I don't have heat unless I use the defroster. Additional problems exist in my car due to vacuum leaks. Unless you either correct the leaks or are lucky and don't have any, just replacing the servo (and the control unit under the dash) won't give you heat. Until I get a copy of the ACC manual for my 107, I won't really be able to track down the problem.

A while back I thought my entire HVAC system was Kaput. I could only get heat via defrost. IT had happened after a short stop when everything had been working fine. In my 1980 (I can't speak to the effectivity) If I blow one of two fuses that service the HVAC, the system kicks into a limp home mode of defrost. Not a bad design. You might check all of the fuses associated with your HVAC, including rotating the fuse physically in the holder. In my fuse box there is an additional fuse in a seperate holder (if memory serves).

And it is a B&*CH to diagnois the 107 or 116 without the book. At least for this shadetree mechanic.

Goog luck.
