87 300E driver side window stopped half way
Hi,
It happened tody, the window won't go up and now stopped half way. It would go down but I didn't want to let the window fully open and not been able to raise it. Is this a regulator problem? How easy and how much to get it fixed? Please help. DL |

Take a look at the prior threads on this common problem. I have a 92 300E that had the similar problem and posted a thread. Sounds like the motor still works so it is time to remove the door panel and inspect the window regulator jaw guide. Its the square looking plastic that runs up and down the rail at the bottom of the window.
1. Look to see if it is broken - when it does it usually in two pieces. If so you will need to replace it. There are other threads that are excellent description of the process. 2. In my case it was not broken. Study this plastic jaw piece. See the aluminum backing. In normal operation, as the window travels up the rail this plastic piece wants to rotate. If it does, the window will travel up to a certain point and stop and that plastic jaw guide has rotated out of position. 3. Remember that aluminum backing - it hooks into the jaw guide to keep the alignment. I noticed mine had bent just a little allowing the rotation. I carefully bent the sides of the aluminum back so that it retained the guide. No problems with the window for the last 6-9- months. Good luck |
