380SL noise

I have had a knocking noise in my SL. If I let the engine idle and/or run it at less than 2000rpm without puting it in gear, I do not hear the knocking. When I run the car down the road the knocking is more pronounced. Some of you have said this may be torque converter bolts. Would that explain why it does not knock unless I have put several miles on the transmission? If it is the bolts, I assume I would have to drop the engine or move the transmission back. Thanks for any advice!
