Hello,
I am wondering, do a/c compressors go bad over time? The reason I am wondering is because my a/c compressor doesnt kick in at all but I can spin the front of it freely by hand.

Also another thing, well as some of you know I trusted a local mechanic (who claimed they knew mercedes well) with my car and for some reason they unplugged things for no reason whatsoever. Before I sent to car to them there were no lights lit on the dashboard except the bulb out light. Well when I got the car back the SRS, Antilock and bulb out light were on, well I plugged in some wires which were unplugged in the passenger floorboard and that fixed the SRS light but now I am wondering about the Antilock, is there any wires the mechanic may have unplugged and where are they located? Thanks for your help.

P.S. I would also like to say thanks to you guys for helping me out so much.

The A/C could be low on freon. This is usually the case when a 124 will not turn on the compressor.

I would think that one of the wheel sensors may be disconnected. They are located under the hood. One near the fuse box and the other near the battery. They are round connectors that are realatively large in size....Check them. If this is not it, I would check the overvoltage relay.

I'm reasonably sure you shouldn't be able to spin the driven spindle of an A/C compressor by hand. The compressor clutch has two major components. The drive pulley is turned by the serpentine belt. The compressor shaft pulley is driven by the outer pulley when the clutch is energized. If you can turn the compressor freely, then there is no freon in your system or the swash plate has broken off the compressor drive shaft. As Donnie said, check the R-12 to see if you've got any..
