Upper hood position on C230 / 202
I have found the little "buttons" on the hood hinge mechanism that when pushed let you raise the hook a little more. These allow me to get the grill about a foot higher, just high enough so that at 5'8" I don't bang my head, which is a big plus. However, I was told by the previous owner that I should be able to raise the hood to verticle and even backward slightly. I tried pushing more but it doesn't seem to want to go any further. I am not super strong but learned long ago that I am plenty strong enough to break parts of cars. Does this hood actually go farther back?
Thanks, Mike |
Yeah, should go up like the owner said, up past vertical. You raise it in the normal way, then pull the hood down just slightly and push the button/lever thingie and let the hood go up just slightly, the button thing will still be held by hood force. Then do the same with the passengers side, but don't pull down at all on the hood, just push the lever thing and push the hood up, it will take just a little effort, mainly just enough force to overcome the weight of the hood.
Gilly PS should also be described in the owners manual |
You have to do the driver's side first, then the passenger's side. It will "lock" in the vertical & you'll need to release the pass. side button to lower the hood again.
Neat feature. |
Thanks everyone, I did finally get it... um, raise the hood all the way up. Just had to "push a little harder" That is a pretty impressive maneuver! (No there wasn't any mention in the owners manual) I am thinking with these 2 hood positions it allows some new roadside signals:
Hood up regular position on the side of the road = car broken, need help Hood up in high position on the side of the road = I'm available Mike |
<<Hood up regular position on the side of the road = car broken, need help
Hood up in high position on the side of the road = I'm available>> Hood in high position on side of road means they already got the engine.... |
