My '99 CLK has been bugging me since new because of all the interior squeaks when I hit bumps. Just had the seat cushions replaced with the newer ones with the felt pads. What a difference, no more noise. It was done under warranty and I would urge everyone to do the same. It's really worth the time.

My CLK is currently at the dealer for the same seat fix. I have also had the dash replaced twice for noise and cracks.
I sometimes have squeakes (becoming more frequent) from the passenger door around the airbag area, and occasionally from the drivers door. Other noise that was really bad was from a bracket on the exhaust. It is at the front of the system and is a two piece bracket that sits between the left and right pipes ahead of the mufflers etc (tansmission area). Seems it deformed and would rattle under acceleration, really bad when it was cold, less when it was warm. This is finally being replaced under warranty as well, the first time the dealer "fixed it" they tried to tighten it and charged me $16. Never solved the problem, but seemed to make it worse. Actually had to have the MB factory rep come out and look at the car to OK all these warranty fixes. Needless to say, I won't be buying any more cars from this dealer. |

Have you noticed any problem with creases in the seat cushion? Both replacements have slight creases, but the originals were smooth. There is another post on this subject in Detailing.

Yes, that is my post. My seats were replaced, and the passenger side is very creased. Drivers side is fine. Service manager says it will go away over time.
I say maybe, maybe not. If it does not fade in a couple of months, I will make them re-do. Anyone experience with this problem ? I also now have a rattle from the passenger door around the airbag area. I think I will fix it myself. |

Just an update on the seats etc. The creases in the passenger seat have gotten better, but I can still make them out.
My new dash (again) is starting to make creaking noises (passenger side, I think from the air vent area). Seems the cure is to get a new dash every 2-3 months. ARRGGHHH !!!! My 1982 Chevy half ton with a half a million miles on it has less squeakes and rattles. The seats aren't creased either. |

Trent,
I am very interested to hear about your various rattles and how they were eventually solved. I find that many of the CLK problems are common across the cars and are sometimes hard to pinpoint for resolution. A lot of investigative time can be saved if we share the results. For example...I had a vibration/buzz from the rear seat area that drove me crazy for months. After a LOT of time, I finally found it was caused by the rear dome light assembly which was lightly touching the roof. A small piece of foam cured it. Could you keep me posted by e-mail on any experiences like this? You can e-mail me directly through this forum.

Interesting that you should mention the rear seat area rattling. I was on a trip this weekend and noticed a new noise coming from the rear seat area that I could not pinpoint. I will check the dome light.
They tried to cure my dash noises by foam taping everything. That didn't really work, so when the dash started to crack around the airbag, it was replaced, twice. This seemed to cure the centre dash rattle. I now have a new noise that seems to be coming from the dash, passenger side around the vent area. I have yet to have time to fix, but I will let you know. The passenger door has also developed what I would call a "flapping rattle" type noise. I can stop it by pressing against the aibag area, but it is tough to drive like that. I will be taking the door apart ASAP. After my seats were replaced, they no longer squeak at all. I also had an exhuast rattle that was caused by a bracket that had warped (front of exhaust, behind the cats). It is placed between the exhaust pipes and appears to hold them together. I think a little more testing needs to be done before MB rushes to launch these new models. I waited a year and a bit before buying a CLK in hopes to avoid some of the new model glitches (not that MB should have them anyway) but no such luck. A had intended on getting a CLK55 or E55 next, but now I am hesitant. I guess my problems may seem minor, but I expected a lot when I bought a new MB (and shelled out a LOT of hard earned $$) Maybe I expected too much ?? |

I have a new little rattle. It comes from the driver window. It stops if I lower and raise the window, but then may start up again if I open/close the door. Somehow I guess it doesn't seat right, but again, hard to show to the dealer.

I have owned a 2000 CLK 430 convertible for 10 months and have not noticed any rattles or squeaks. I don't know if this is the result of less problems with a newer model (problems worked out) or different build due to the convertible.

I have a 04 MB clk 230 cabrio and the passenger door has a rattle in it like the window is hitting something. I would kike to know how to take the interior door panel off and see if I can locate the rattle. Anybody have any idea how to remove the interior door pannel without tearing it up? help!
