Brake Line Specs.
I need to replace the brake lines on a 1981 300TD wagon. I do not know the diameter of the lines. Can someone share with me the diameter of the factory lines? Thanks.

Sorry it's just an educated guess (meaning I have replaced MB lines before and had to buy a section of line, but it's been awhile). I know it's metric line and I believe it was called 6mm. Check with a parts store and ask what size metric brake line they stock, it'll probably be the right size, manufacturers don't seem to use alot of different stuff when it comes to line and hose diameters in brake systems especially.

PS alot of the ends MB uses in brake and fuel systems are called "bubble flare" not "double flare" like US manufacturers like to use. It looks sort of like the first step in making a double flare. You can get a flare tool that can make an especially nice bubble flare, or yo can try to get by with just the first step of a double flare. I splurged and got the bubble-flare flare tool, it's a little nicer flare.

Gilly,
Thanks for the help. I'll double chaeck the diameter with the dealrership. 6mm looks about right. I'll let you know. Does Fastlane carry the "bubble flare" tool? |
