'95 C280 31K miles. Searched archives for neutral safety switch info.
Synopsis: Turn key to start and no action except for normal dash lights. (new battery, plugs and wires) Tried to start in neutral and no go. After a while tried again to start in park and it worked. Worked again after I got home. ODDITY: Before failing to start the first time, I opened the locked car via the trunk. All door locks opened except the passenger side. When I got home I was testing the HVAC fans and electrical features. The door lock button on consol does operate all doors except it is NOISY as the door locks engage or disengage. I also hear a noisy apparatus at the rear passenger side back seat (area). Could this be related? Vacuum problem or neutral safety switch ? Any opinions would be appreciated. THANK YOU. Update: Everything works fine now. Starts, automatic locks (although still a bit noisy) However, it will start in NEUTRAL as well as in PARK. Neutral safety switch and lock-out relay? ------------------ 1979 300D 133K miles 1989 300SE 1995 C280 [This message has been edited by unkl300d (edited 11-19-2000).] |
Yes the central locking system must send signal to disengage starter lock-out relay. Central locking pump is in trunk on rt side. If locking & un-locking doors allows starter to work the pump isn't sending correct signal to relay all of the time.
