Right distributor fires 1-4-6-7, left distributor fires 5-8-3-2. These numbers should be emobssed in the distributor caps. I don't remember which bank is 1-2-3-4 and which bank is 5-6-7-8 but the bank that's slightly forward of the other bank is the 1-2-3-4 bank. I think the right bank is slightly forward of the left bank but double check.

Mel, here's the firing order along with . . . .

1 Attachment(s)
engine layout.

Firing order: 1 5 4 8 6 3 7 2
------------------------------
4 O O 8
3 O O 7
2 O O 6
1 O O 5

Engine as viewed from front of car
No 1 cyclinder is on the LEFT side of the engine and it's the first one when viewed from the front.

The distributor caps are marked for each cyclinder but only 'generically'; not with the actual wires that go to each spark plug.

JimF - your info is normally impeccable - but I think your engine layout here is backwards on the driver's side. In other words I think cylinder 5 is opposite 1 and cylinder 8 is opposite 4, like so:

4 8
3 7
2 6
1 5
front

Anyway I changed my spark plug wires today and that's what I concluded, and the car started right up. Just thought I'd post this for posteritys sake.

Wow, that's what's . . .

called a "senior moment"! I've corrected it. Thanks again. . .
