16v AFM Potentiometer install

Hey all:
I went to replace the potentiometer on my 16v, but even if I make clearance by moving the distributor cap and the fuel pressure regulator, there is no way I can get a torx screwdriver in there to undo the screws. It looks like the whole AFM has to come out. Has anybody removed the potentiometer on a 16v that was held on with torx screws without removing the AFM? Any special tools needed? Thanks in advance.

Unless you have "small" tools & fingers that I don't have you must remove the complete housing. & then adjustment can mean removal several more times!

I removed the whole air flow meter to do mine. Yes, it's a total pain! There was someone who claimed to have done it by just removing a few fuel lines and pieces, but I could see how. Come to think of it, I think his was phillips screws which would be a whole lot easier and doable with the above mentioned pieces removed.

I would tighten the rear torx screw tight and leave the front ones, or the ones you can reach with it installed snug. Then when you get the car running adjust the pot slightly by prying gently on one end to get it to the specified. 0.70 volt.

OR.......go to a hardware store and swap the torx screws for phillips heads and then you can adjust it easier.

I wish I would have though of this while i was replacing mine.
