I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY HELLO TO ALL MERCEDES OWNERS OUT THERE AS I HAVE RECENTLY SPENT MORE MONEY THAN I CAN REALLY AFFORD TO DRIVE ONE OF THE FINEST MARKS ON THE ROAD, PERIOD. MY 190E MAKES ME SMILE EVERY TIME I WALK OUT TO START IT, HAS ME LOOKING BACK AT IT WHEN I PARK IT AND GETS ME COMPLIMENTS WHEN I DRIVE IT. THE FIRST NIGHT I GOT IT I WAS SO EXCITED THAT I ACTUALLY SLEPT IN THE BACK SEAT!!! I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY DRIVING A MERCEDES IS A PRIVILAGE AND AM THANKFUL TO OWN ONE EVERYDAY. I WAS INTERESTED IF ANYONE ELSE HAD STORIES OF THERE FIRST MERCEDES AND WOULD LIKE TO POST IT? I APOLOGIZE IF I'M IN THE WRONG FORUM FOR THIS BUT, THIS IS THE ONLY ONE WITH REAL ACTIVITY AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR SOME STORIES.

I bought my first mercedes in March. I had been driving previously a really small Ford.
My dad has always driven Mercedes, I have always wanted to drive them.
I am only 18, so insurance is very expensive, and with petrol prices over here, it is even more expensive to run.
But it is worth every penny. I am already on my second Mercedes, and hopefully on my third very soon.
They are the best cars in the world, and nobody I know understands why I love them so much.

My current mercedes is my first mercedes, It is a 1986 300E, its dark blue with a gray interior and chrome wheels. The exterior has a few dings and the interior is real clean. I inherited this car from my mother 5 years ago, then the car broke down about 2 years ago and I just let it sit and it got worse. Anyhow I am in the process of fixing it up into good condition. I am very proud to drive this car, when I am driving I always look at the hood star and think how lucky I am to have one. Thats my story if I havent bored you to death already.

I got this 240D 2 yrs. ago. It's no 600SL, but I'm VERY impressed with its QUALITY/MATERIALS/ECONOMY. I find it very hard to get emotionally excited, not only about this car, but ANY M-B short of SSKs, 300SLRs, etc., because they're so stinkin' CONSERVATIVE! In the emotional sense they are just expensive Toyotas to me. That'll be 2 cents.

pezzy and Oliver, thank you for your replies

I know what you mean Oliver when people don't understand how a person could love a car so much or for that matter spend much time working/washing/detailing/upgrading a daily driver. Gasoline here is Canada is getting a bit much too, as a student who needs to run high test (91 minimum I usually run 92 or 94)
I'm paying on average $0.90/litre and a fill up is running me over $50.00 and finding I don't even have enough money left over for the things I would like to buy for this car.
But, those are small gripes for what has to be one of the finest luxuries on earth....

My first experience with a MBZ was a friend of mine in L.A. We both worked for the government, and I never thought I could afford a MBZ, or was somehow not "allowed" to drive one b/c I was a govt. stiff. She bought a used one w/100,000 miles on it for about $20K. I thought she was insane. Of course, I was the insane one--it was (and still is) a great car. A few years later, my wife and I bought our first: 1986 300E 5-speed. Great car. I recently upgraded to 1994 E420. It's hard (impossible?) to go back once you've driven the best. (Ironically, in that sense, it actually limits your options in car buying!) But I would have it no other way. I will never drive anything else as a daily driver.

I purchased my 1988 300e from Donnie (Benzmac)about a month ago. I fell in love with it the minute I drove it. I've learned to appreciate a lot about MB since my affiliation with these cars began 8 months ago. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. My friends and family all thought I was nuts because of the year and mileage (200+K) . I tell you one thing, the skepticism stops once they experience the ride. The comment I hear the most is "I can't believe this car is 12 years old and has this much mileage on it!!" I don't think I'll be able to look at another type of car for a while. I'm just hoping one day to own a CLK!!

uh-oh, I sense a Mercedes Commercial a brewing.. hehe or how about a new bumper sticker. "Have you hugged your Benz today?"

Just got my first mercedes that is mine and not a family members' 7 weeks ago.

I love my car more than I care to admit hehe.

In fact my computer is now second on the upgrade list, now that I have something else to upgrade hehe... I guess I'll have to deal with the computer when the car is finally done. - hmmm maybe I wont ever get a new computer then hehe, upgrading the car with all the goodies is much more fun.

I just debadged it and man what a difference. the back is clean and even more elegant than before.

I have always loved mercedes, and the car I bought has always been my favorite benz. and one of the only ones that I would drive myself all the time. I would of course love to have a nice benz from every decade or style..

Wouldn't it be a hoot to have one of every model of a 300 series mercedes or 190 series or s class. hmmmm that would be a great looking bunch of benz's in the driveway.

Personally I think Mercedes has always designed cars with timeless styling. Over and over they have changed the way cars all over look. I think every manufacture looks at Mercedes when they are designing a new car.

A Benz is a sexy, wel styled car, and I am proud to call myself a Mercedes Owner. although you might call me a Mercedes Nut hehehe. Almost every paycheck I have gotten in the last two months has gone into upgrades on the car. and I havent even scratched the surface yet hehe.

Anyway you look at it, you can't go wrong with a benz. Rock Solid, Reliable, and way good looking cars. Even the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's Benz's still look better than most cars built today. I'd buy a 20 year old benz before I'd buy a brand new car of another Brand.

No one can believe my car is a '92, they always think it is much much newer.

Good luck with your benz and post some pics of your baby for us to see.

Alon

I bought my first Mercedes in 1973 - a '66 250S the DAY I got my drivers license. With my own money! I loved that car, but when I got rid of it in '78, I swore I'd never own another! Of course, I was a kid in college and I really couldn't afford to spend ANY money on a car, much less a Mercedes. If I only knew then that I could have replaced those &%#*! Zenith carbs... boy they gave me fits! About 4 years ago I finally bought another - the car I really wanted when I bought my 250S, a 190SL (actually, what I REALLY REALLY wanted was a 300SL...). I've spent some money and lots of time on it, and I still love it. Just bought another Mercedes a month or so ago, a '92 300E with only 14,000 miles on it! I think I'm hooked again...

Shyne,
You slept in the back seat!! You're crazy. I just parked it by the window near so I could look at it from inside the house. I remember when I was a kid, I don't know, like 11 or so and started to be interested in cars. I asked my father if Rolls Royce made the best cars in the world. He told me, some people think so, but not me... Mercedes Benz are the best cars in the world. (keep in mind that he's a Ford man) I asked him why he didn't buy one. He said that they were too expensive and that there was nothing wrong with our Ford. So, I bought Fords. They were alright... Then I got married and My wife wanted a Family. Well, I wanted something safe and I'll be DAMNED if I'll drive a Volvo!!! I bought a 1986 300e off of ebay! I'd never even driven one before. That was 13 months ago. I'm sold! I'm never going back to Ford. My wife makes fun of me for checking out this page, reading MB books and getting super excited when I'm able to fix the car up in anyway. I guess she just doesn't understand how important it is to drive one of the best cars in the world. My father won't admit it, but I know he's jealous.

thank you all for your replies....I love all of the stories, I'm not sure what other "ordinary" people think of our obsession but, I could care less!!! I look at dirtbags driving around in ****boxes and laugh!!! It's only been 5 days now that I've owned my 190E and have already got 5 compliments on the shape and model of my car!!! at least one person a day tells me "nice car" or "looks nice, what year is it?" At a gas station recently I was in line to pay for gas and a few kids infront of me my age where talking about my car and complimented me on it and I started talking with them about various of makes. I found it funny that the gino of the group said he would get a BMW if he was buying a car. Have you ever noticed people who enjoy bmw's are usually lower class meat heads who know nothing about cars in the first place? I'm in favour of form following function. Let the posers and gino's drive bmw's. I laugh everytime.

I'm happy to say that just last week I purchased my first benz (CLK-320, silver on black). I have for over twenty years been a devoted BMW owner and when I began car shopping about a month ago I never dreamed of switching to an MB. I believed that MBs where over priced and over rated until......I began test driving them! I also drove top of the line Volvos, BMWs and Audis but kept coming back to the Mercedes for quality in form, fit, funtion and style. The CLK offered me the sportiness I was looking for without yeilding to comfort and ride. This car is a perfect fit for me and I doubt I'll ever go back to BMW. This adventure has also sold my wife on the MB. She currently owns a new Volvo and vows to switch to MB in the future. This was a good thread for me to offer my new found appreciation for Mercedes Benz. Thanks to everyone at MB!

ketoj,

Your CLK must look slick!!! Those cars look smart right out of the gate. Understated aggresiveness with nothing overdone. Those have to be some of the cleanest lines around with nothing much comparable to it. What do you think? I'm pleased you finally came to your senses and went ahead with the merc. I doubt you'll regret your decision. Later!!!
