I drove my car to a Ice Cream drive though window. there the engine sounded like a Diesel. it was not lould but I can only hear this when I pull next to something. Has anyone had this happen with there 500SEL ? and what could it be ?

There are oil feed tubes between lifter bores on the cylinder heads VERY common for them to "leak" and allow the lifters to become noisy.

WE replace several sets every day for that problem.
