I need help to understand the functioning of the Kompressor on my SLK. Can someone explain the variables that control when the Kompressor engages and disengages? I have previously heard that it happens at 2500rpm but find it hard to believe that a modern car would not take much more into account than that: throttle position, temp, engine load, etc. Can someone enlighten me.
Thanks for your help.....John |
Assuming that your SLK is the original model 107.447 with the 111.973 engine...the supercharger engages upon cold start...acting as an air pump for up to 2 min.....then the engagement is dependent upon throttle position and engine RPM...it is engaged above 2200 RPM regardless of throttle position...and remains engaged also during deceleration to prevent boost lag. The latest version engine, the 111.983 has the supercharger running all the time...with no electric clutch.

My 230 is an Year 2000 with the supercharger clutch.
Thanks for the clear response. Does this mean that the supercharger will engage at a full throttle launch from idle, or similar heavy throttle prior to 2200 rpm? John |
