400e wiring harness is done :(
well today i am driving and i notice 1) seat belt display wont stop flashing 2) the radio wont work (turns on and says E 2 then turns off) 3)Radio antenna wont go all the way down, or up for that matter 4)The doors dont lock together, each one has to be locked and unlocked seperately. That, along with the fluttering gas gauge leads me to beleive it is the wiring harness. How much do they cost and how hard is the installation? I guess i was due for a major problem with 214,000 on the clock

I haven't replaced a wire harness yet in my car and I haven't done much research on the subject. I did find this for you in case you need it:

The typical harness problem is with the engine wiring harness and the symptoms don't include what you mentioned. My wild guess is that you need a new overvoltage protection relay and/or a new voltage regulator.

o yea i forgot the main reason i posted this. The car wont start. Wont turn over at all.

If the voltage regulator's been dying for a while, the battery's probably discharged.
Assuming the alternator and voltage regulator are similar to the 80s set-up: - disconnect the battery - remove the 2 screws on the back side of the alternator - extract the voltage regulator - check the brushes of the voltage regulator - if a brush is not clean and shiny, it wasn't in good contact with the armature A voltage regulator is $25-50 depending on brand and source. I hope that's all it is. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

Sorry about the lousy picture. The voltage regulator goes in the spot marked with a red oval. Remove the 2 screws, pull out the regulator.
Should clarify - this picture is not of a 400E or M119. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
the thing is the lights work when the key isnt even in the ignition. I dont see how they would if the battery was dead. Ill go check it out tho. Thanks for the feedback

Try to start the engine with the lights on. If the lights dim, the battery doesn't have enough juice for the starter. If the lights don't dim, there's a problem between the key switch and the starter.
