W124 Rattle Doctor - PLEASE HELP
I have done several searchs of this forum to help identify a recent rattle on my 1994 E 420. A significant creak/rattle, quite loud actually, has developed in the right front corner of my dashboard. The noise eminates from right behind the speaker right at the junction of dashboard and windshield. It is a 'flex' rattle as it increases in frequency and intensity over rough roads. It creaks/rattles with back & forth swerving of the steering wheel at speeds over 25 mph. I can almost 'feel' the rattle when you put your fingers on the convergence of the windshield and dashboard immediately behind the speaker it is so loud. I initially thought it came from the front pillar but it is definitely located in the dashboard. Any suggestions as to what it might be and how to isolate/fix this annoying noise would be greatly appreciated. This is a plea for assistance before this noise sends me into orbit or to the local nut house!
Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply. dick mcd |

Problem All E-class Clacking noises at A pillars near engine hood hinges. Possible cause, suggested repair a. Weld seams between reinforcement panel and A pillar missing. Weld panel to A pillar b. Check wheel house paneling behind reinforcement panel for cracks. MIG weld cracks. From the drawing the reinforcement panel would be near the top of the fender and weld to the pillar comming down from the roof. It shows 2 weld points upper point 40mm top to bottom lower point 20mm top to bottom. The wheel house Paneling (behind it) extends down from the upper frame piece along the top of the fender.
