Jumping fuel guage
I have a 1961 229sb (hector) - bought recently.
The fuel guage jumps around when car is driven - Is there a fix or do I need a new sensor? Thanks |

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere between the sensor & gauge. Maybe a ground connection.
Enjoy,

My 1985 did that for a short time. THen the gauage went dead and a new fuel sender cured the problem. THe old one fell apart in the tank. It went out, then made a tink sound at stops. Tha tis when I replaced it. I counted miles for a year.

Hector, the problem probably lies with the plug that connects to the sender. If you look at it closely you will see that the cover can come off that plug. Note the postion of all the wire positions and start resoldering the wires to the connectors. There are only like 3 wires, but put towels down, etc. to keep the soldering gun away from raw gas! This is similar to a dead gauge problem my friend had on his '72 108.
Thanks David
