I'm new to this forum because I just bought a 97 SL500. But I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to find out if there any mods on this car. So far, it has aftermarket exhaust tips (and perhaps the whole exhaust system) and K&N air filters. I'd like to know if the engine has been modified at all, but don't really know how to check. Any advice?

Sounds like you need to visit a very good Mercedes mechanic in your area; have a baseline service done so that you can start keeping records and have them tell you all about it. :)

Got burned from one recently
 

Finding a good mechanic would be nice, but I recently got burned from one two weeks ago. I'll have to go to court soon, so I don't want to say much right now, but when it's over, I'm going to warn everyone in LA to stay away from this self-proclaimed "Voted Best Mercedes Mechanic in LA" guy! :mad:
