Help..Neutral safety switch..

My neutral safety switch is going. any way to bypass it until I have a chance to get a new one?? How hard is it to replace and can I get it locally?

Check the connection, if you have not already done so. Sometimes it is just a loose plug.

The N.S.S is adjustable. If that does't work then replace it.Easy job.

I know that in my 300sd there is a way to bypass the neutral safety switch. On the left side of the engine bay, there is this black box that has four large wires going into it. If you take a piece of wire and touch the first and third one together with the key in the #2 position and the gear selector in D or N, it should start. If not one and three, try two and four, because I am not sure. I know that this trick only works for a while though, and when the switch is gone, you are done. Switch is only about $50 and is on the left side of the transmission from what I remember.

safety neutral switch problem

I have posted this solution that worked for me. The switch is on the drivers side of the transmission body. It gets lots of road dirt and corrosion. Spray generously with WD 40 , this can clear contacts and wash some dirt off. It can work. Worth a try before you replace. good luck, Abe G
