Help. '98 E320 Spark Plugs

I need to replace the spark plugs on my E320. I took of the coils to see if I had enough room.

Is there a special size spark plug?
Any advise on getting the plugs?
Can someone recommend a good replacement plug?

Thanx in advance...

Shonne:

I can't speak specifically to a E320 >> but for my 97 C230 I found that a normal sparkplug socket and a pair of needlenose pliers / hemostats worked OK.

Use the sparkplug socket to remove the plug from the cylinder head , and then the hemostat to pull the plug out of the recess.

Not exactly "elegant" >> but it works

When re-installing the plug > use a piece of rubber tubing over the plug cap and seat the plug by hand.. You DON"T want to strip the plug threads!!!!!

Replace the plugs with the exact plug recommended by the factory. It will be listed in the owners amnual, usually on the inside back cover, but maybe in the engine data page.

The boots can be removed with a peg board hook. Find a hook with the pins that fit into the peg board spaced close to 17mm - adjust a little if necessary. Use a short piece of 1/4" pipe over the hook end (use a straight hook - like you would hang a hat on). Slip the fork over the metal boot and lever against the valve cover. One of the moderators, Gilly, recommends one of the old valve adjusting crowfoot tools, but I gave mine away some years ago (dumb!).
