oil filter cap thread broke off!!!

Sorry, but I tried the search, and could'nt find anything.

one of the oil filter cap threads broke off, and I'm wondering if anyone knows how the threaded post is attached to the housing, is it threaded and can the remainder be screwed out or is ponded or welded in? And is the threaded post a mercedes replacement part? I hope I don't have to replace the whole filter housing over this!

I guess its the sort of thing that can happen in below zero weather. I used a torque wrench, but it must not been working right.

A simple oil change turns into a big hasstle!

Thanks
Mike
ps oh its a 79 300 wagon

I'm not sure of how the studs are attached -- I would guess screwed in, but that is only a guess.

At least it didn't let you get up to highway speed and then blow off....

Should be a threaded stud. If it broke flush with the housing you will need to drill it and use an easyout. Just make sure to cover the filter housing opening so you don't get any drill shavings into the filter.
And don't try driving the car with only one nut on the filter. It will leak.

Good news: the replacement part if you want it to be Mercedes perfecto is: Part Number 606-990-00-05, description 14732 stud.

Its standard and cheeper at Napa.

No Problem!
