I have recently bought a 1986 560 sel. When I bought the car the engine had been removed from the vehical and the heads taken off. The work was done due to a timing chain guide breaking and causing the engine to skip time and bend some valves. I want to rebuild the motor, but I dont have very much experience with overhead cams and would appreciate it if some one could help tell me where I might find the timing marks on the cams and how to align them. Thanks for your help.

I assume you mean 380SEL? The 560SEL didn't srrive in the US until 1986 as far as I know.

You need to get some sort of a service manual, even a cheapy Chilton book will do wonders to help you get familiarized with the workings of the overhead valve Mercedes V8. The one I have is quite good at giving steps and diagrams on pertaining to exactly the above questions you have.
Most of us are more than happy to help anyone out around here, I just feel you need to qualify yourself somewhat by doing a bit of research on your own.
