Gasket dressing question
 

I'm replacing the intake manifold-to-waterpump coolant hose in a 1993 W124 500E.

In order to do this, you must remove the pipe socket on top of the waterpump, and install a new gasket.

Should I use any gasket dressing like Hylomar or the "pink" Mercedes anaerobic dressing/sealant ?

If the "gasket" is a rubber seal (typical of MB thermostat seals), use nothing, you won't need it. If a paper gasket, use "aircraft" Permatex (the red painton stuff).

Use antiseize on any steel bolt going into aluminum.

What Fred is referring to(I think) is Permatex High Tack, a spray on sealant - red color.

I've yet to find anything that works as well. Will never again use the goppy RTV stuff.

As a mercedes technicain I never use any sealant on those parts. The gasket is there for a reason. That reason is to seal it. Using anything more just introduces more variables and creates a greater chance of a leak.
