Heated Outside Mirror.

The car is a '95 E300 Diesel, 124 Body (Same as an E320, etc..) My outside driver's side remote heated mirror stopped heating today. The passenger side mirror still heats fine. I don't think its the heating element in the mirror that is defective, since its a new mirror purchased directly from Mercedes a few months ago and worked fine till today. Its currently 25F outside, and snowing, so it definitely should have heated-up.

The remote control function still works and the mirror can still be adjusted using the switch, its just that its not heating-up anymore. Any ideas were to look?

Thanks

Phil

I Would remove the mirror glass and test the glass with a OHM Meter and Inspect the back side of the glass for breaks in the Heat element

Thanks Mark,

I still had access to my old mirror and checked its Resistance. It measured 4.1 Ohms. The new Mirror measures in the K Ohms. So obviously, unlikely as it is it is a defective heating element in the new Mirror.

I bought the whole mirror assembly from Mercedes back in July of this year. The heating element in the new mirror may never have worked properly, but I did not notice it until now when the cold weather started.

Not sure how long the warranty is but it better be more than 5 Months. Will go back to Mercedes tomorrow and if necessary fight it out with them. I still have the old mirror which is still good, so if need be, and if I can figure-out how to interchange mirrors I'll do that.

The reason that I had to buy a new mirror housing is that the old housing broke at the hinge when someone walked inadvertently brushed against it. (Me) It should have moved out of the way but for some reason it did not, and the hinge broke. The actual mirror (Glass) was still good.

Not a very exiting end to my heated outside mirror saga, but I went back to Mercedes today, explained the circumstances, and they will have a new mirror assembly for me tomorrow. Covered under warranty i.e. No charge.
