1995 C280 Wiring Harness WHERE!

Can anyone tell me where to BUY the Wiring harness for this car besides the dealer and the approx cost..

Also, I read that there is a "new" and and "old" version of the 1995 C280 causing the price of the harness to jump up, any truth to this???
How would I know if I had the new or older version of the 95?
My battery in in the trunk, does that help?

The CE light is on and will not reset for long, even with the battery disconnected for a bit. The harness looks like you know what, and I am afraid that continuing to put it off will only cause the car to have BIGGER problems. I have gotten away with it for 6 months the car runs GREAT still no problems, why tempt fate I say..

Any info would help. I have found out how to install the harness as well as find the correct part number from the other posts. I will post pictures of the actual repair when I do it but I need the part to do it!!!!

ThX,
Bill

Your chassis number dictates which harness is correct. If you look at the last 7 digets chasis numbers up to F159969 use parts number 202 540 40 32 that lists for $630. From F159970 through the end of 1995 the number is 202 440 79 05 and lists for $1010.

Not much chance to buy this other than the dealer. There is too much risk and not enough profit for anyone else to sell it. I would shop your dealers maybe look in the Star magazine for dealer wanting DIY business and compare against those prices.

Tom Hanson at the Anaheim Hills Dealership in California will get it for you at a great price. He covers the tech forum at www.mbca.org.

Wholesaler SSF (S. San. Fran.) used to have them and probably still does. But their price is about the same as the dealer's - which probably means they're getting them from Mercedes - in other words, dealer only item.

SSF does have both numbers (I checked after I looked the numbers up), but unless I work a deal on them (which I did on a harness last week) they want a small amount more for them than I pay the dealer I get a good deal from.

Call BMA Importers at 818-240-1223. I bought 202 540 40 32 from them 8 months ago for $535. Search my screen name for my comments on installation.

Jobbers have the same info as the dealers and are often more knowledgeable than the dealer personnel on older cars. Whether you buy it from the dealer or somewhere else, if it's the wrong part you return it - no big deal.

The part # should be on your original harness on a tag near the end that plugs into your ecm. You should order your replacemnt with that number, which may or may not have been superceded to another #.
