small xmission fluid leak after trip

after the 96 S-320 sits for some days and I drive it, when we return and park, I get a small xmission fluid leak on the floor. I read an artical in the STAR about a year ago(I can't find it now)regarding this, seems it said something about a small (O) ring on something on the side needed replacment. Anyone know anything about this problem, Thanks, Ron

The O-ring thing may be valid - can't say - not familiar with your model.

MB has max. torque values outlined in service manuals for the tranny pan bolts. They are seemingly low, but if not adhered to, can cause a similar situation. Applying too much torque causes an indentation in the pans edge. This gives the fluid an escape route.

I've been through this with one Asian SUV.

Bottom line - dont over-torque tranny pan bolts.

Thanks Mike, I'll look at that. I had read an article in the STAR some time ago that talked about a small (O) ring somewhere that could be the problem, but can't find the copy as yet..

Parking lock cable o rings leaks, drives side rear of the transmission and the electrical connector o rings, passenger side front of the transmission.

O Ring

Yes there are two O rings in the transmission, on is easy to get to and the other requires more time. There is a pin that helps to hold each of these O rings in the transmission. I just had both of mine replaced at the cost of $350.00 along with the transmission service.
