1997 E320 722.6 Transmission Computer

I have been having some issues with the tranny in my 1997 e320 w/ 131K. When cold, it does not want to shift out of 2nd and sometimes shifts hard as well. I have researched prior threads and think this problem may be related to the transmission computer. I checked for fluid contamination and didn't see any. I see that I have the 020 545 88 32 version and there is mention of installing the better 020 545 92 32 version. Can I just plug this in or is there more to it? Will any 020 545 92 32 work?

I know I should get the codes read but that will cost more then a used tranny computer and if the higher number is a better, plug-and-play unit, I feel I have nothing to loose. Can someone that knows more then me let me know their thoughts on this? Thanks

Dave

Not plug and play, have to get a new one and order by VIN.

Gilly,

I thought I had read in the threads about others buying a used one and being able to just plug it in? Wouldn't one from a same year e320 be the same?

Thanks

Dave

It could be a normal driving condition; the 722.6 transmissions have the catalytic pre heat cold up shift delay; it can also be a driving style shift adaptation, depending on how aggressive you drive the car when cold. A defective transmission range recognition switch can cause erratic shift complaints. The first step in diagnostics is fluid level and condition, reading fault codes and adaptation values.

Driving style adaptation is instantaneous, so it's not that.
