How Exactly Do I know if my AMM (MAS, MAF) is bad?
 

reason i ask is this. I was spraying nitrous on it this past weekend and after a couple times, all of a sudden just started puttering. Thing would barely run. It now idels at 1000 rpms and seems very slow to respond when the gas is pressed and it doesnt shift like it used too. Its a 1993 400e. Ive eliminated the throttle body actuator as the culprit. The thing is, none of the wires are broken. Is there any way to clean them? Can i just reset it? (which ive already tried to no avail). Its also doing 2 things

1) it runs but almost dies with no air filter on it. As soon as i throw a cone filter right on top of it it idles alot better

2) it runs better with the MAF unplugged, but wont run good on the street with it unplugged.

Once again idle is around 1000 rpms, and on deceleration it is very slow to return to 1000 rpms. It also is alot slower in terms of acceleration, but it seems to run ok.

still need help with this if there are any suggestions :confused:

I am not a professional but I can tell you that every post that has started with "Is my MAF bad?" has ended with "My MAF was bad". Also the fact that it runs better unplugged is a clue. However someone else might have a better answer.

Well, I advised you NOT to blow nitrous on an AMM put it in the plenum, didn't do much good. Can't imagine anything else I would say would be listened to. Anyone that understood a thing about how they work wouldn't blow nitrous across one.

yea it was pretty stupid to do it. i guess i just rushed and thought that a dry system would be fine. Anways it runs ok it prolly is a bad maf, but i still dont see how its still messing up because the wires didnt break or anything. Im putting the nozzle flush with the maf this weekend should work just a little better.

Chemical reaction?
 

The wire on this system gets very hot - could the nitrous have caused a chemical reaction with the wire? I'm not a chemist, but it seems like a reasonable explanation to me.

I have a 2 year old spare MAF in good working condition if you're interested. From a 1994 or 1995 E420 (I'll check for exact model year if you're interested).

I bought it from a guy that was throwing parts at a problem (Must have been a rich guy to throw a MAF at any problem first). Tested out OK at Mercedes dealer.

how much do u want for it? It should be the same one for the 92-93 400e.

I bought it in case i ever needed it (a spare).
 

I KNOW it's good, which means its value is pretty high to me. I believe that the lowest you can find these things remanufactured for is around $400.

I'd have to ask around $200 for it. Sorry - I'm not trying to gouge, but I know that I'll have to buy this part myself one day. I need a price high enough so I don't feel bad if I let this one go, and have to buy a retail / wholesale one later.
