Coil Spring Compressor for 124
I'm replacing the springs & struts on my '87 300TD & need a coil spring compressor. ZDMak & Ebay sell the Mercedes type for around $260. Given that I'll never use it again I'm looking to buy a used one or rent one from someone or am happy to trade wine for the use of spring compressors.
Has anybody had any luck with the cheaper ($30 - $50) type spring compressors? |
Welcome to the board.
General consensus; DON"T USE THE CHEAP SPRING COMPRESSOR; use the one designed for the MB, unless you name one of us as beneficiary of your life insurance policy. Where are you located? |
Yea I figured the cheap ones were cheap for a reason. I live in Santa Cruz, CA.

I've changed lots of springs and never needed a compressor. Use the search.

Ditto, you do not need a compressor for the W124

No compressor for front springs?
I know the rear springs just fall out of the perches when you undo the lower A-arm...but I needed a Klann to do the fronts on my W124.036...can anyone explain how it is possible to remove the fronts without compressing the spring? Does one have to disconnect the hub assembly or something? :)
