Checking M103 fan pulley bracket for wear...

Need some advice on gauging wear on the engine fan pulley bracket bearing. I've got the belt off to fix some P/S leaks, and was spinning the fan pulley this afternoon - it spins easily but makes some light clicking sounds. There's also a small amount of noticeable play front-to-back, but not excessive, maybe half a mm. Just enough to make a clicking noise when pulling on it.

Is this enough wear to warrant replacement, or can I expect more noise/play from the bearing before elevating it on my to-do DIY list?

Thanks,
Anthony

If it is either of the cars shown in your sig (neither with less than 200k miles) I would go ahead and replace it while you are in there.

I would definitely replace it because of its condition. It should have NO play and spin as smooth as butter. You don't want it coming apart, it will suck the fan blade through the radiator and make a big mess with other things as well.

Merry Christmas,
