Over-Voltage Protection Relay - Failure Mode
 

Given that the OVP relay fuse is OK, and the problem is not intermittent. Does anyone know if the OVP Relay, always fails in such a way that it either works, or it doesn't?

Or, can the OVP Relay also fail partially in such a manner that it still operates some circuits normally, yet fails to operate other circuits at all?

Usually, cracked solder connections. Resolder them. Do a search on OVP.

mine recently failed
 

symptoms were high idle (900rpm in Drive, 1900 in Neutral or Park) and very hard to start. Fuse looked ok. Turned out to be the OVP, replaced at the mechanics(should have done it myself in hindsight but I know now) and it's been running fine ever since.

Hello Phil,
since it has several Terminal 87 outputs, it can actually happen that some circuit is OK whilst the others are down.

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies. I am now fully equipped to check this relay myself. Got hold of the wiring diagram, as well as the circuit description of the OVP protection relay. Bought a digital Multi-meter, as well as a MityVac.

Ready, and anxious to diagnose. All I am waiting for is for the brutally cold temperatures to ease-up a bit. Its currently -2F outside, and close to freezing inside my garage. Need heat, lots of heat.
