Ok, what's wrong with the locks?
I started in on the "free" 190e yesterday, with a fresh battery. Sure enough, the starter is bad (probably a bad over-running clutch, since the starter turns nicely but doesn't rotate the engine).
However, I did find that the alarm works ..... The lock buttons do not go down with the key, either front door, and the locks don't work (I assume that is because the pump is bad and/or a line is broken). Are they supposed to? I would assume so, although I don't know for sure. If someone has had this problem, what's the solution? I've not had the locks go bad on any of the later cars yet. Update: Just tested the pump by locking with the lock button -- works fine. So does the trunk. Am I just missing a link in the doors? Thanks guys! Peter |
It looks like someone as disconnected the link rods on both front doors! strange but the only explanation for not locking with the key.

Given the condition of the car, I'm not shocked, anything is possible.
120,000 miles, engine work (major) at 70,000, torn seats, butchered radio, missing trim panels, etc. Hopefully it's just a missing or detached link. Peter |
