Urgent Help - Trunk lock tumbler removal
I would appreciate any help from you guys on the trunk lock tumbler removal. My car , 87 420SEL, had this issue since I bought it. The trunk will not lock or unlock with the key (Master key). It worked fine with centeral locking system, finally I decide to tackle this today. I did a search and could not find any specific help on the topic.
I have removed the lock from the trunk and have it on my bench. I am not able to remove the trunk tumbler so I can file the bent metal pieces to fix my problem. What is the trick to remove it? I cannot even take it out of the chrome piece as you can see from the pic. Thanks in advance

The age old method prevailed, Hammer. On a serious node, It is fitted with couple of "tap things" on the bottom. I just put a big socked on the bottom and a small socket on the tom, lightly hit with hammer and it came out of the chrome piece. Once out of the chrome case, it is pretty straight forward. I took all the pieces (tumbler) out and file them, #2, #3, and # 5 was bent and causing the issue.
I did have few challanges putting it back in the car but that is a different story. The lock is back in the car and working like a champ. I have taken pictures for the whole operation, just in case if some one on the board need help. Here is pic how it came out and the tumbler with pieces.

Thanks!
Wow, at the kitchen sink no less! Are the individual pieces, such as the ones you filed, obvious in how they go back together? Reminds me of when I rebuilt the face on the '91 300E radio. Ton of little pieces etc but with a fluffy towel undeneath, careful observations and patience it went back together and works great. Haasman

I took a special permission from the wife to do this on the Kitchen counter
![]() Well I got so encouraged by this success, that I took upon to fix my passenger door lock also. Just finished it, not hard to do, but require a lot of patience as you mentioned. Thanks
