Torque Converter Rotation
 

Hello everyone! I'm changing my transmission fluid in my 1988 w124, i've drained the pan and i'm trying to turn the torque converter but i can't do it. Any tips on how to turn the converter? I have the car up on ramps and the rear wheels blocked. Thanks for the help!

Got it to turn ... just cranked the engine slightly ;-)

Thats how I do it. I found turning it with the pry method very difficult. Although now that I think about it, I bet the tranny was in park.. :eek:

To avoid damaging engine timing components, such as the chain tensioned and guilds you should always turn the engine in the direction of engine rotation only, the timing chain components were designed to operate in one direction only; and that is engine rotation. I have seen motors with worn timing belts jump timing. Because of the fluid coupling effect, you can a turn the engine and torque converter in park. :)

oh wow, i had it in neutral with the parking brake depressed pretty hard and wood blocks....anywow got it and drained the torque converter ... it was DISGUSTING smelling, i don't think it had ever been changed since 1988, and it was goopy. Anyway can you guys reccomend a good place for mercedes parts so far www.*************** seems to be the best...

I would think that we should support this forum by buying all the parts from the Fast Lane, the sponsor of this wonderful and great forum. There link is on the top of the forum page, I rather call since Phil gives you very personalize service not very common now a days.
IMHO, It is just not fair to buy parts from some one else, since we get most of our problems resolved by the help of members of this board. So why not help and support the board by purchasig all the parts from Fast Lane. Especially when they are very competitive in price and Phil is the most pleasent and helpful person to talk to.
