W124 blower motor change, new part doesn't fit

Hey all,

Just got a new blower motor with squirrel cages for my 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo W124. I put it in it's slot and the cages rub on the case that holds the assembly. Shouldn't this be adjusted properly from the factory or do I get the wrong part? Else, what's and easy way to slide the squirrel cages over just a little bit? I don't want the thing to get ou of balance....

Thanks much!
-m

PS: Also, the new motor came with a new base piece.... Might I have to use that with the new motor?

do you have a dust filter?

the blower motor for the one with dust filter is smaller than the one without dust filter.

Hey,

No, no dust filter and I specified that when ordering.

The motor and cages seem to be the same size (held side by side with my original part). Just the cages aren't in the correct position on the shafts to work.........

Can they be safely adjusted without wrecking them? I couldn't get my old cages off, so I'm a bit nervous about messing with these new ones.

I had to adjust mine. I held one end and turned the cage on the other end. As I slowly turned the cage on the shaft I was also pulling and moved it enough to fit in the slots. Seems Mercedes could of gave us just a tad more room to play with.

Cool. Yes, it looks like you can turn one end by hand while holding the other one. Glad not to have to use tools, one wrong move and your plastic cage is toast!!

Thanks for the advice... I can have heat again!

W124 blower motor change...

I just changed the blower on our '93 300TE. We do not have a filter. The new motor was 1/8" larger in diameter than the original one. I did have to use the new base. At first I thought the cages would not clear but with the proper base installed and the motor centered the cages turned freely. One thing I noticed was that the motor configuration was different than the original. The electrical connections were on the opposite end. It is important to note which way the vanes are pointed on the original and then make sure the new ones point the same way, regardless of which way you have to position the motor. Mine went in and out with out any trouble. Be sure to check for proper rotation and air velocity before closing everything up.
