What would it cost to rebuild the tranny? How's the history of this automobile? Does anyone know?

for $52... I wouldn't be even asking any questions. Thats essentially a free car. Worst case scenario is you have a POS, and to dispose of it is as easy as calling the wrecker.

Words of wisdom frequently spoken here, there is nothing more expensive than a cheap fixer-upper Mercedes Benz car! On the other hand, some people are looking for projects and this one looks like it may have some promise. BB

Looks like a nice car. Grille and badge in good shape, lights straight and good, it's even a nice colour.

The owner sounds like he knows a little about them perhaps? "what my dealer insists are leather seats" - sounds like he knows that they aren't, they are of course good old MB-tex" (which I am warming to more and more)
