Headlight Wiring and Plug Heat Deterioration- W202 1999

I'm hopeful that I can get guidance on my headlight wiring inside the lighting housing. It seems that the wiring and plug receptacles have degraded over time (158,000 miles) due to heat within the housing. I can see that the wiring is brown to black from heat, and the sheathing and the plugs have heat damage and are very brittle. It’s so bad that I was blowing fuses when turning on the fogs…they are now unplugged awaiting repair solutions. Yes, I tried some higher watt high beam bulbs, but lows are std 55W. Has anyone experienced a similar deterioration of the wiring and plugs inside the headlight housing? Can I buy the new plug receptacles that plug into the back of the bulbs and then rewire with a more heat resistant wire? I’m open to your suggestions…
