cruise control amp. removal
My cruise control is not functioning with all the symptoms pointing to the cruise amplifier. I need all the step- by -step help I can get to remove the various panels required to access the amplifier. My car is a '93 300sd. I think the amplifier is under the driver's side dash and I assume the panel under the dash which attaches to instrument panel housing has to be removed. Its not clear to me how to do this.
Thanks in advance, Harry Hughes '93 300d '92 300sd |

On the W124, I don't believe it's in or behind the dash, but located behind the the brake and gas pedals, under the carpet and pad.

On the W124, it is behind the driver's side kickpanel (not on the floor, but under/behind steering wheel)
Aluminum box about 2x4x6.

On a 1990 300TE, it is behind that trim piece that houses the headlight switch and the key ignition switch. It is mounted just to the left of the steering column. DO not remove the instrument cluster...it will not help at all. You need to work your way up to there...removing each piece as you go. You may need to remove the carpet molding in order to remove that protector piece under the dash just above the pedals. The protector black piece needs to removed....then the piece above it. You should see the screws...and you need to undo the cables for popping the hood and emergency brake. The trim piece where the keyed ignition is....this one is snapped on, and you can accidently break the tangs trying to remove it, so be careful with. Try to slip something thin in there, or possibly move those snap tangs from the other side, if you can.
Get back to us when you replace it. Mine is still in pieces trying to fix this stupid problem. Since i am not 100% sure it is the amplifier, I have not replaced it. |
