Electrical problem

Guys, I am not going to lie and say this is a problem with my Benz, but I could still very much use your help.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited (straight six) 50K mi. About 3 mos. ago, it began to seem weak on start up. Then, on the first drive of a day, I would have to keep it revved up to prevent it from shutting off. The problem got progressively worse, and I had to start driving it with my left foot on the brake at stop signs to keep it running. Why haven't I taken it in? It is my hunting rig, and I don't drive it every day, so I have just kind of been lazy about it. Also, the thing would go for 2 weeks, and act like there was no problem at all.

Flash forward to this weekend. I am pulling my boat out of the Mississippi River, and the Jeep won't start. It just clicked. I took the (fully charged) battery out of my boat, crammed it in the Jeep, and she started, albeit unwillingly. This morning the Jeep won't start at all, or make any noise out of the starter. I took the Jeep's battery out of the back of the vehicle and connected it to my trickle charger. Guess what--the fully charged light came on on the charger.

Anybody got any ideas what may be wrong given these facts?

Any help TRULY appreciated, as I probably won't be able to get it to the stealership until week after next.

Thanks
