E250D ,1992 central locking

Help,

I recently changed my battery and now the central locking wont work, even worse cant get into my fuel cap so I'm stuck on red.

Can someone please guide me with this, drivers door is the only thing that opens with key.

Thanks

You can open the gas fill door manualy through the trunk. Pull back the carpet on the right side and look for a small rod to pull. This proceudre is described in your owner's manual.

What country are you in? What year is the car?

Year of car is 1992, my location is UK, Midlands

I have been told that the central locking works on a vacuum or pressure generated by the engine. Is this correct?

Yes the locks are vacuum operated.

Can you get inside of your car? I hear that there is enough vacuum left to open/close door about 10 times, then you have to start the car to let the vacuum build up again.

I dont see how battery change would be related to the door lock problem???

maybe a vacuum leak somewhere?

Yes, the locks are vacuum operated.

No, the vacuum is not generated by the engine on these models. Vacuum/pressure is provided by an electric pump - no connection to the engine whatsoever.

Did you check the fuse?

Thanks for your help

Its going to a mechanic today, they advise 2 relays have gone as the ABS light is on and the indicators are dodgy.

More later
