SRS Test

Is their any Company that can bench test SRS control system modules.
Also can you safetly check an air bag with an ohm meter?

Thanks for all advice.

droederer,
I have heard of no company

Yes, with a digital volt/ohm meter such as Fluke,
never an anolog meter. boom.

Do you know how many ohms I should read?

airbag

you should never connect any type of ohm meter to the air bag, the current the meters batteries supplies can deploy the bag. what you need to do if you suspect a defective bag is connect a 2-5 ohm resistor to the ingition squib connector, if it is indeed a defective bag or etr, the resitance you introduce will turn off the light, so it is not safe to check the bag using any type of ohm meter.

The SRS is microprocessor controlled with built in diagnostics, and every time you turn on the ignition you should see the "SRS" light for a few seconds as it boots up and goes through diagnostics. If it goes off it means the system has passed diagnostics and is active, and you can be about 99.9 percent certain that the system will function as designed if the need arises.

the system he is reffering to is strickly analog, only the newer versions incorporate a processor. this sysem does not even allow for diagnostic codes, that is for much newer cars.

Thanks all for the great advise. Duke my problem is I do not have a working system (light always on). I have eleminated every component but the bag. The 5-7 ohm resistor sounds like a good idea. I will try it Saturday 1/15
