faulty neutral safety switch

I believe I have a faulty neutral safety switch. The car starts only in N position, It does not start in P. The car stalls at the signal lights when reducing speed/deaccelerating or while taking a U turn.Could this be because of the safety switch.I recently changed the fuel accumulator to solve this stalling problem and had no problem for a couple of months till the NSS gave way and after that I have this problem again.
Could someone please tell me whether it will go away once I replace the NSS.
Thanks
KK

faulty safety switch?

Before doing anything, try spraying switch (on drivers side of transmission) with WD 40, this may clear up dirrty contacts on switch. However, I dont think this has anything to do with stalling problem, good luck Abe G

The NSS is adjustable.I would try that first.BTW i did oll of the above and still had to replace the switch.

I'll suggest using a good electrical contact cleaner, like CRC, instead of WD-40, to clean switch contacts.

WD-40 does a great job of displacing water, its original function, and loosening rusted things, but it is not a good long-term lubricant and not a good contact cleaner.

Best Regards,
Jim

The NSS switch isn't outrageously expensive. If it's anything more than corrosion on the contacts, just replace the unit. You don't want to be stranded at the worst time!

Mine on my '86 300SDL finally died 2 years ago -- after 16 years of being sprayed with salt water from our Canadian winter roads. I got it to work intermittenly but it scared me that I'd be 250 miles away and it would screw up again!

Thanks everybody
I will replace the safety switch. No problem about that.I am infact worried about this stalling problem.I believed that it was fixed after replacing the fuel accumulator.Guess I will have to take the car in to see the mechanic.$$$
