Hello
I have a 1987 260E from which I have removed the drive shaft to replace the front flex disc. I also need to replace the center support and was planning on replacing the u-joint at the same time. My question is, is the u-joint replaceable? I do not see any removable retainers and have not been able to find the part online. Any information would be a big help. Thanks |

The U-joint isn't user replaceable! There are several drive-shaft rebuilders across the US that can fit a replacement joint & even make the joint user replaceable.

If you aren't experiencing a vibration at road speed, just let it go. You can check the joint while the shaft is out if you want to. Rotate the joint from side to side slowly feeling for catches in both axis. If you feel a catch or drag when the joint is perfectly straight that is ok if the shaft has been in service for over a hundred thousand miles. You should not feel any catches or rough spots anywhere off center, however. The shaft has to be seperated from the other part for you to get the subtle feel. This is sort of hard to explain. I hope it is clear.
