190e 2.3-16V fuel economy
Ok here is the deal. I am sick of this. My 190e 2.3-16V is wasting a TONNE of gas! I am getting 230miles to a tank. Thats about 14 miles a gallon! And that is all highway driving. I am in the city for maybe a few stop lights if I hit them and then its all highway driving. This seems to me a little odd as this car is apparently supposed to get 29.5 miles to a gallon on the highway. I have put a new fuel filter in, the plugs and wires have been changed, fuel injectors seem fine. Completely new custom exhaust installed 2 weeks ago. The o2 sensor light comes on then goes off but I highly doubt that it would cause me to cut my gas mileage in half. Also worth noting is that this car has barely any power in the low gears, and yes the camshafts are fine and the timing chain is installed properly. Just wondering if maybe the ignition timing and o2 sensor together could be causing this great loss in power and fuel economy. I am looking for any help here! Thanks a tonne for looking at this!

Most of the tests of the 2.3-16, in North American trim, says that it gets 21mpg average. Car & Driver quoted the EPA mileage numbers as EPA City =18 mpg; EPA Highway 26 mpg; and their observed fuel economy at 18 mpg.

My father had an 2.3-16 -85 which was tuned by AMG wit other camshafts and some several other parts, around 100 km/h it took 0,8 litre/10 kilometers, with an big caravan it wanted in same speed 1,2 litre/10 kilometers
To get that consumption he cleaned the whole fuelsystem in an "high frequency machine" at a near workshop

My 16V race car gets about 6 MPG & the street 2.5 16V gets about 15.5 MPH. OF course the race car is pushed to max RPM all of the time!

Here in "the colonies" its SAE.
While the camshafts were likely reshaped, I would expect AMG to typically increase the flow on both the intake and exhaust sides of the valves. |

I can get about 350 a tank on mine which comes out to about 20 -21 MPG with a combo of freeway and city driving. A road trip will get be about 23 mpg.
